Switzerland, a nation of bankers?
Easter Monday morning (from 10.00), a 100 year old traditional Easter egg game takes place “under the arch” on the right side of the Limmat in Niederdorf. Zwänzgerle, or also called drirüere (Swiss German for “throw into”), is a tradition that died out during the rationing of world war II, and was revived in Zurich during the 60’s.
Zwänzgerle goes something like this: take a bunch of kids with Easter eggs and line them up on one side of the street, and have adults line up on the other side of the street armed with “Zwänzgi” (20 rappen coins). The kids hold up the eggs and the adults throw the coins at the eggs. If the coin sticks in the egg (yeah, right) the adult gets the egg, otherwise said child keeps both egg and coin.
