I’m not one for gimmicks, particularly in the travel accessory area, but there are a few that I use. Several years ago, killing time in a Container store, I walked past the Eagle Creek packing accessories. You know, the packing cube and shirt packer (with the free shirt folding “device”). I was in shopping mode, so I bought the shirt packer.
I’ll admit up front that I’m a disorganized person, and stuffing shirts into the corners of suitcase works. I was traveling a lot on business in those days, often with several short stays and multiple destinations. I used my new shirt pack and now I seldom go anywhere without one.
If I were going to one destination, and stay for any length of time, I’d probably not bother, but there are two situations where they shine. On multi-stop [business] trips; these packing modules slip right out of the suitcase and into a drawer, or on top of the TV, keeping things together. Keeps it tidy, and less likely to forget bits during those frequent Hotel rushed checkouts. Just stack the handy packs in the suitcase/backpack, and you’re out the door. No more panic because your cloths won’t fit in the suitcase again.
Also, if like me you like to use your stopovers to visit a parent in Chicago, on the way to and from a warm holiday destination, these packing kits are great for segregating the foul weather gear from you beach attire. When you get to Chicago, pull out the packs with the thermal underwear (and leave them there). Leave the shorts in the suitcase with the flip-flops and condoms. No need to waste potential quality time with the parents on tedious repacking.
