I fantasize about it, and when I get it, I like to lean back, with my hands behind my head, and close my eyes. If I haven’t had any in a long time I may tremble from time to time. I’m a man that can’t get enough. I don’t think I’m unusual in this. That’s why in 2007 the Swiss chocolate industry had record results: SFr1,662 million ($1,512 million dollars).
Chocolate was considered an aphrodisiac by the Aztec's who thought it “invigorated men and made women less inhibited”. When it was introduced to Europe, chocolate quickly became the ideal gift for an optimistic admirer to give to a woman, or vice versa.
It may have helped; chocolate contains Tryptophan, a chemical that the brain uses to make a neurotransmitter called serotonin, which can produce feelings of elation, and ecstasy. (The drug “Ecstasy” also works by increasing serotonin levels). Chocolate also contains Phenylethylamine, nicknamed “chocolate amphetamine”, which stimulates the brain's pleasure centers and reaches peak levels during orgasm.
Of course I eat chocolate for it’s health benefits. Chocosuisse - an umbrella organisation of the Swiss chocolate industry - hype the antioxidant benefits of chocolate, particularly dark chocolate. Chocolate is a source of polyphenols, whose antioxidant characteristics may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer.
(Hoboscribe: dark chocolate goes well with red wine and/or whisky.)
