Appellation

Published 14 January 2008 in swiss wine
Scribbled by Hoboscribe

Merriam Webster: a geographical name (as of a region, village, or vineyard) under which a winegrower is authorized to identify and market wine; also : the area designated by such a name

Hoboscribe (more or less): The first vineyard classification system was introduced in 1730 by the Hungarians in Tokaj-Hegyalja, Hungary. The rules that govern appellations are specific to the country in which the wine is produced, and is not a study for the faint of heart.
